It is the first of July. No really it is. Or at least it is here.
(Pinch and a punch, gotya!) :P
So... its five weeks to my birthday, give or take a few days. And I have about 17,000 to go before I hit 60,000. *scrambles for computer calculator* I need to write at least 460 words a day to finish it.
I recon I can do that. As long as I don't skip too many. That makes for baaad.
:)
So... now I can do my best not to make the dogs howl :)
A copy of Midnight Never Come!
The bookshop calle dup to say it was in last night, and I picked it up this morning. Its now sitting on top of my TBR pile. I thought it would be bigger (and more expensive), but its not. :)
Maybe I'll take a picture. Maybe I won't. Maybe I'll take a picture but not post it on the internet. Maybe I won't take a picture but post it on the net.
Maybe this has gotten silly.
She actually hasn't done anything yet, but she's realised she's in doodoo. *g*
*~*~*
I saw Prince Caspian last night with my Grandma. We had planned to go to the 2:45 session, but she was running late and we went to the 4:30. It was... it was good, but there was something missing. I think that probably comes from the book, though. I don't remember very much of the books, and I think the hollowness of story- even the allegory seems surface, and I'm not so sure that its because I disagree with some of the beliefs underpinning it. Apart from that, it was stunning. I don't know what all the fuss about Caspian's accent was- it didn't bother me in the least. And swordfights are always good :)
*~*~*
I am going to see Peter Pan in the theatre on Saturday night. *squee!* I'm going with mum, but we're going to be up the back. It should still be really good, though.

I hit 40,000 words today! Two thirds done! (And I kind of like the abundance of 4s)
*does happy dance*
Though.... most of the scene includes my main character playing Final Fantasy 7, at the start, and I should probably be embarrassed at the stupid details I remember, though I'm actually kind of proud of it. The only thing I actually need to find out is how much time it gives you to get out of the first reactor before it blows up. I guessed 15 minutes, but it might be 10. Or 30.
*hides*
I'll probably have to cut half of the detail anyway. :(
I did another 800 words today. I planned to go back and do more, but that didn't end up happening. And surprise of surprises- it involved the Game On Exhibition at the ACMI. I wanted to go becuase I wanted to write that scene, but it was also an excuse for me to go to the exhibition.
I sort of... I'd like to post bits and peices I've written, but I'm a bit paranoid about it. I don't know if its the 'I'll never be able to get this published for real' or the 'someone's going to nick it and claim that its theirs', and even though both of these I can more or less deal with by posting under lock, I... don't know. I might just have to post and be damned on that count. I do want you guys to see the way I write, so you can have a chance to see what you think of it, and to make my writing life less mysterious as far as all you are concerned. Now, if I can figure out what to post...
Reading
I've been reading. Last two nights its been the first of the Jenna Solitaire books, and... bad. Its tried to tell me that this board thing is evil by a)telling me repeatedly its casing is made from human skin leather, b)suggesting said leather may have been obtained willingly (...? I don't get how this is ooky-bad), and c)may have possibly caused the death of one person we witness in a dream. But dude, its an inanimate object. If its not sentient, it can't be evil. If it was, I might have been willing to play along. Also, the author of the book is theoretically the protag, but the story itself doesn't make reference to this. Made of fail.
On a much nicer note, The OK Team, by Nick Park, was pretty damn cool, even though its aimed at 14 year old boys. Superhero novel, adresses the idea of minor superpowers, I found it funny even though I should be too old, and set in Melbourne.
Part of the endy stuff made me cry, which is patently ridiculous, but it happened. It really is a beautiful game, though. The artwork is gorgeous and the music is beautiful and it has a lot of Japanese folklore everywhere- the brush stroke gods are the Eastern Zodiac and at least one of them has folkloric connection to the power they grant, from my limited knowledge of Japanese folklore.
Game On was fun. Most of it was games set up so you could come along and play them, and there were a lot. They had the old Prince of Persia on a console, and one of the new ones, the first Lemmings; Pac Man, Mrs. Pac Man, and Space Invaders as arcade games; Sonic, Mario, Guitar Hero, Jax and Daxter, The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy, Wii Sports, something on eyetoy that was set up so you could see whoever was playing it jumping around like an idjot, Final Fantasy 7... :) They had a Japanese dance-mat game, I think its called Dance Dance Revolution. And a game where you had to do things without being able to see anything, like you're blind- I forget what its called.
So...
I finished Children of the Night by Mercedes Lackey the night before last, borrowed Tempting Evil (Keri Arthur), Bitten (Kelley Armstrong), and something else I'd seen around but never read. I finished Tempting Evil this morning. I enjoyed it, but it was pretty nasty. Lots of sex, lots of violence, as usual.
Children of the Night was fairly good- I really enjoyed Lackey's writing style and it was a good story, but she had a tendancy to infodump (the first chapter is nearly all one long infodump).
So yeah, it was good. They got a standing ovation. They tricked us into it, though.
Saw The Gruen Transfer: it was pretty cool. I think it might have been better if it was longer, though. They disected the 'evolution' ad from the Dove campaign for real beauty, and that even though they're looking at a concern with the industry, they're really going 'hey- we're the good guys so buy our products'.
In completely unrelated news, I used to really like Mondo Thingo- it was on in '04, at 10:30 at night, ABC, presented by Amanda Keller, and rather awesome. Even if it was only half an hour long, it was rather awesome. Or so I remember.
Doing OHS (occupational health and safety) was somewhat amusing, because when we were checking out the building for OHS risks it made my author brain go 'Is this dangerous? How could this possibly be dangerous? Is there any situation in which this could be dangerous?' Given some more time, I could probably figure something out...
Yup, writers are special people...
*giggle* My friend Tara is a walking OHS hazard- she likes fire and knives.
(Ha, she called me something that came out of Pandora's box :P )
Anyone who can write 1000 words or more in an hour has my undying envy. At least until I get over the slowness of my writing or realise I can revise 60,000 words to the point of being almost publishable in a week or whatever. That would be made of win.
I think there was something else I wanted to say, but I don't remember what it was.

Take the Villain quiz.
For all the the questions were kind of fun-silly, I'm not surprised. I like the idea of being sneaky, even though I rarely have the means or motivation to do so.
Today I wrote 1,100 words in 3 hours! Woot! And kind of bought some new books... One I found in the shelves for $5, got it for $2.50. I wonder what happened for it to go down in price that much though.
I couldn't find the girls I was meant to be meeting with today, so nothing happened on that front.
I did the prac part of my admin course on Monday because the staff at the Centre had organised a surprise party for the Centre manager, and if I didn't change days I wouldn't be able to go. I blew up balloons and made funny noises while doing so because I don't have the lung capacity to do it very well. Naturally, the manager came back early, so she found out, but she had a surprise anyway because she didn't think that her parents would be coming.
On Tuesday, I went to Jobsearch training in the morning and took the bus to class in the afternoon because there was a workshop on the the tutor wanted us to go to as part of the course on Wednesday morning.
On Wednesday, I took the bus to the Centre, we had the workshop. It was kind of a 'what do you want to get out of life' kind of thing, and very enjoyable. And I went to Jobsearch training at the centre. When I walked in, I had someone ask if I had been to Corio Primary school, because they knew my sister, and ran into a friend from high school, Jana.
And I downloaded Inkscape onto the computer. Its an open source art program, and its really fun to just muck around with. Easier to make much prettier stuff with than Paint, and easy to figure out how to make stuff. And it has a spiral tool :) And stars.
I had an idea for another story (a short, thank gods) and I've done a little bit of work on it. I guess it might be 1000 or 2000 words long when I finish it, but I don't know. I still want to try and get Chained up to 60,000 by 'deadline', though.
